Personal Loan
Documents Required for a Personal Loan Application
NeerCred Team · 9/7/2025
While exact document requirements vary by lender, most personal loan applications in India ask for some combination of the following.
Identity and address proof
- PAN card (mandatory for any loan application in India)
- Aadhaar card, often used for digital KYC (Know Your Customer) verification via Aadhaar OTP
- A recent photograph
Income proof (salaried applicants)
- Latest salary slips, typically the last 2-3 months
- Form 16 or income tax returns
- Bank statements showing salary credits, typically for the last 3-6 months
Income proof (self-employed applicants)
- Income tax returns for the last 2-3 years
- Business bank statements
- GST registration certificate, where applicable
- Proof of business continuity/vintage
Why digital applications ask for details, not scanned documents
Many digital lending platforms today collect this information by having you type your details directly into the application - PAN number, income figures, employer details - rather than uploading scanned copies of every document upfront. Verification often happens digitally in the background (for instance, Aadhaar-based e-KYC), which is faster than a traditional paper-based process, though the lender may still request specific documents later during underwriting.
A word on data accuracy
Providing accurate, consistent information across every field matters more than people often realise - a mismatch between your stated income and what your bank statements or ITR show is one of the more common reasons an otherwise-eligible application gets delayed or rejected. It's worth double-checking your entries before submitting.
