Personal Loan Checklist: Everything to Prepare Before You Apply
NeerCred Team · 2/10/2026
Applying with everything prepared in advance genuinely speeds up the process and reduces the chance of delays. Here's a complete checklist to work through before you start.
Documents to have ready
- PAN card
- Aadhaar card (for digital KYC)
- Latest salary slips (2-3 months) or income tax returns (2-3 years, for self-employed)
- Bank statements (typically last 3-6 months)
- GST registration and business current account details, if self-employed
Numbers to know before you apply
- Your exact loan requirement - a specific figure, not a rough estimate
- Your current monthly net income
- Your total existing EMI/credit card obligations
- Your approximate CIBIL score (check it yourself beforehand if possible)
Decisions to make in advance
- Purpose and amount: Know exactly what you need the loan for and how much, rather than deciding on the fly during the application.
- Tenure preference: Have a rough sense of whether you'd prioritise a lower EMI (longer tenure) or lower total interest (shorter tenure).
- Whether you need a co-applicant: If your individual profile might not meet eligibility alone, decide in advance who might co-apply with you.
Questions to be ready to answer accurately
- Employment type and tenure with current employer/business vintage
- Any existing loans or credit cards, and their outstanding balances
- Purpose of the loan (some lenders ask, and consistent, honest answers speed up assessment)
What to review once you receive an offer
- The APR, not just the interest rate
- The exact EMI and whether it fits your budget
- The total repayment amount over the full tenure
- Any processing fee, prepayment charge, or late payment charge
- The cooling-off period terms
A final note
Being organised and accurate from the start isn't just about convenience - inconsistent or incomplete information is one of the most common, entirely avoidable reasons applications get delayed or rejected.
